Computer Science (BS)

The BSCS degree presents a course of study that includes mathematics, science, and computer science foundational topics necessary for the preparation of a successful computing professional. Students are taught skills in the art and science of computer programming that exposes them to program design, logic, computing theory, software engineering, and validation. Students develop software in our state of the art labs that offer a variety of operating system and interactive development environments. Typical jobs obtained by recent graduates include, computer programmer, computer analyst, and computer support specialist. Students who intend to pursue a software engineering career should select the Software Development Track.

Construction Management

The undergraduate program in Construction Management is nationally accredited by the American Council for Construction Education. Its goal is to provide students with the knowledge and skills required for entry level supervisory or managerial positions in the construction industry. Graduates usually find employment as project managers, project schedulers, cost estimators, quality controllers or in managing their own construction firms. Opportunities for employment or advancement exist in all areas of the construction industry including land development, home building, public building, industrialized building systems, commercial, industrial, marine and highway heavy construction, underwater and space age facilities, material and equipment sales and installations, and construction product research, development and sales.

It is interdisciplinary involving law, the social and behavioral sciences, crime, the reaction of society to the crime problem, and the means used in treating it. The program produces graduates with sophisticated analytical skills needed for a new era of law enforcement.

The BS in Crime Science is intended for students who appreciate the modern complexities of crime, its prevention and control. Contemporary concerns over homeland security has created an unprecedented demand for criminal justice and counter terrorism have also created new technological problems and demands for police agencies, as has the growth of computer-related crime. Internship opportunities are plentiful for undergraduate students and students can be placed in numerous local, state and federal agencies. The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Science is offered both onsite and fully online.

Dietetics and Nutrition - Coordinated Program (***Inactive as of 2017)

The Coordinated Program (CP) is a limited enrollment program for FIU students who wish to graduate with a Bachelor’s of Science in Dietetics and Nutrition degree, "job ready", and eligible to take the Registration Examination for Dietitians. Admission to the program is competitive. Students apply by March 1st prior to their junior year. See the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition website for further details.

The College offers baccalaureate degree programs in Social Work and in Dietetics and Nutrition. The Dietetics and Nutrition Program is offered in two formats: Didactic Program and Coordinated Program. The baccalaureate program in Social Work is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). The Didactic Program is fully accredited and the Coordinated Program has been granted probationary status by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND).

Completion of Didactic Program (DPD) enables students to receive a Didactic Program Verification Statement and apply to accredited Dietetic Internships to be eligible to take the Registration Examination for Dietitians.

The nutrition science track emphasizes the study of the basic sciences, biology and chemistry, and uses this foundation to build the nutrition science core curriculum. Students explore food, human physiology, metabolism and understand the complex relationship between nutrients/non-nutrients in foods, optimal health and disease.
