Program Description

The Bachelor of Health Services Administration (BHSA) qualifies graduates for entry-level management positions in health services delivery organizations providing acute and chronic care, rehabilitation and/or health promotion in various health care settings. This degree is a valuable career development pathway for students licensed/certified in clinical health sciences professions but lacking an undergraduate degree; this degree also prepares students for further study at the graduate level in health services administration, public health, and other health science professions (e.g., Athletic Training, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Speech Language Pathology) given students complete the prerequisite science courses. The program emphasizes systems engineering and financial management of health organizations, health services research, economics, politics and legal aspects of health systems, and program planning and evaluation.

Admission Requirements

1. Students entering FIU as Freshmen or as a Transfer Student with less than 30 credits

You are considered a freshman when you have earned less than 13 college credits since your high school graduation. Credits earned in Dual Enrollment, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate programs do not affect your freshman status.

Admissions criteria are the same as the general FIU criteria for students entering with fewer than 60 approved credits. Click here for the details.

2. Student transferring to FIU with 30-59 earned and approved credits

The Bachelors of Health Services Administration is a Limited Admissions Major. In addition to the general FIU Requirements, your application must be screened by the College.

3. Students transferring to FIU with 60 or more earned, approved credits

As a Limited Access major, the College of Nursing and Health Sciences reviews all applications to determine acceptance decisions. If you meet general FIU admissions criteria for Transfer Students with 60 credits or more, you will be admitted to FIU pending the College's decision for admission to the BHSA program at the upper division. You will be required to have a 2.5 GPA for your 60 transfer credits and completed the pre-requisites and lower division requirements. For more information about transfer admissions to this program visit the Health Services Administration website.
