Logistics

In today’s global economy, the vast majority of businesses require the movement of information, goods, products, supplies, materials, and people in order to fulfill the organization’s goals and to provide benefits to the communities the organization serves. This movement of human, physical, and informational capital involves the field of logistics and supply chain management. The new major in Logistics and Supply Chain Management provides undergraduate students with in-depth knowledge of logistics and supply chain concepts, best practices, and current tools of the trade that will enhance their career opportunities with respect to local, national, and international organizations.

Business Administration

Management

The management major seeks to provide undergraduate students with a broad overview of organizational management. It offers a flexible program of courses that emphasizes the most current knowledge in the profession. Students can select a general Management major or choose to pursue the major with: an Entrepreneurship, Green Management, or Leadership and Change Management Track. The degree enables students to carry out the planning and organizing functions of management, control functions in organizations, fulfill leadership roles and link organizational social practices to the community which are ultimately advantageous.

Marine Biology

The Marine Biology degree program provides a strong foundation in biology, including structural and developmental biology, physiology, organismal diversity, and ecology, within an evolutionary framework. Housed at the Biscayne Bay Campus, the program focuses on marine organisms and ecosystems, taking advantage of ready access to the diverse tropical marine environments of South Florida and the Caribbean, including coral reefs, mangroves and seagrass beds. Faculty and students strive to enhance our understanding and stewardship of the world's oceans, especially coastal ecosystems. This field of study will prepare students for further graduate and professional studies, as well as for employment in areas that require university-level training in marine biology and oceanography.

Marketing

The marketing major provides a solid understanding of business activities under the marketing umbrella-from the identification and selection of target markets, to the development, pricing, placement and promotion of goods and services, and the management of relationships among business partners and their customers. Students receive a broad foundation in marketing concepts and practices and opportunities to pursue greater understanding and skills in selected areas of the discipline including sales, advertising, distribution and logistics, and international marketing. Graduates are able to understand consumer behavior, calculate retail pricing on both cost and profit based approaches, interpret the language of marketing research, and analyze a company's marketing strategy in order to recognize appropriate and inappropriate marketing alternatives.

Nursing

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is a limited access program (admitting 100 students each fall) for students who wish to become a registered nurse (RN) and obtain their BSN degree. Nursing is the fastest growing profession in the U.S. This program teaches students using our advanced STAR (Simulation Teaching and Research) Center, interdisciplinary simulation and clinical experiences. Students learn nursing science, nursing skills, cultural sensitivity, and the application of research to provide high-quality, evidence-based, compassionate nursing care to assist multi-generational, multi-ethnic, multi-lingual patients/clients and specific underserved populations to improve their health, restore health, to live with chronic care conditions, and to rehabilitate disabilities in the acute care and community settings.

Nursing and Health Sciences

The College of Nursing offers Baccalaureate to Doctoral level in Nursing combines hands on learning with technologically advanced and realistic lab settings. This helps the students to prepare themselves with the highest level of knowledge and skills so they can qualify for job opportunities and achieve their goals in the Nursing community. The school has a Simulation Center and the Rehabilitation Center which have, special labs, real-life care settings, and advanced technology that help the instructor clearly explain and show students how to care for a patient. The College of Nursing and Health Sciences is one of the most technologically advanced colleges in the state and offers education from the Baccalaureate to Doctoral level. The Health Science exploratory area contains majors that are ideal for students who have an interest in pursuing careers in health sciences or nutritional counseling. Exploratory majors are excellent for students who are unsure about the major they want to pursue or for students who do not meet the criteria for certain majors with selective admissions. These students will have access to an academic advisor who will provide personal guidance with exploring various career options and selecting an appropriate major.

For all undergraduates attending FIU, Undergraduate Education provides academic advising, first-year success seminars, tutoring services, study abroad and student exchange programs. Transfer and Transition Services provide valuable assistance to entering transfer students.

Psychology

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology provides quality general education in the psychological sciences. The curriculum reflects current trends in the science, theory and practice of psychology. Undergraduates may pursue the B.A. in psychology as a liberal arts degree, in preparation for graduate or professional training in psychology, social work, education, law, medicine, business, and other disciplines and/or to work in para-professional jobs under the direction of licensed or certified professionals. The program consists of 120 credit hours, including completion of the university core curriculum, courses in five key sub-disciplines within psychology (experimental, social, applied, personality/abnormal, developmental), statistics, research methods/lab courses, and electives.

Sociology/Anthropology: Anthropology

The BA in Sociology/Anthropology allows students to concentrate in either sociology or anthropology. The sociology track educates students in the scientific study of social life. Sociologists confront real world problems such as the effects on social life resulting from corporate downsizing, the growth of web-based and mobile technologies, or urban blight and gentrification. The anthropology track educates students in the study of the cultural practices in particular places; how people organize, govern, and create meaning. Anthropologists work on problems such as the cross-cultural delivery of health care, exclusion or assimilation of immigrant populations. Students acquire a global perspective and valuable skills including social survey techniques, ethnography, social statistical sampling methods, computerized social data analysis, and computer-based mapping of social phenomena.

G-SIPA includes eight signature departments: Criminal Justice, Economics, Global & Sociocultural Studies, History, Modern Languages, Politics and International Relations, Public Administration, and Religious Studies.
